LSAMP Peer Tutors

The peers you can count on!

 

When a student becomes an LSAMP scholar, they are matched with an LSAMP tutor. The scholar must meet with their tutor at least twice a semester as a requirement to receive their stipend. 

 

Meet the LSAMP tutors:

 

Chloe Jackson

Double Majoring in Secondary Education and Mathematics

Tutor Chloe Jackson

Chloe Jackson tutors Algebra and Calculus courses up to MA 126. Algebra and geometry are her favorite mathematics topics. She listens to music, goes to concerts, and spends time with her friends during her free time. Fun fact: Chloe traveled to South Korea in the Summer of 2024 on a UNA Study Abroad trip. It was her first time out of the U.S.A.

About tutoring, she says, "Other than the opportunity to help others become more confident in their own math skills, what I love most about being a tutor is the connections I've made through tutoring."

 

Cole Reynolds

Majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science

Tutor Cole Reynolds

Cole Reynolds tutors MA 100, 112, 113, 115, and 125. He is particularly interested in studying differential equations. Cole enjoys hiking, reading, and collecting vinyl during his free time. Fun fact: he coached a 4U soccer team in the Summer of 2024.

About tutoring, he says, "I like being able to help people, and tutoring is a fantastic avenue for that. I know how bad it can feel to fall behind in a class while everyone else seems to be thriving, and I love to be able to help people not to feel that way."

 

Taylor Brewer

Majoring in Biology and Concentrating in Pre-Health

Tutor Taylor Brewer

Taylor Brewer tutors for chemistry and biology classes. His favorite school subject is physics. During his free time, Taylor enjoys playing tennis. Fun fact: he has got two cats named Bubby and Parker.

Regarding his favorite part about tutoring, he says it is "Sharing my interest in science to help other people."

 

Kinley Cook

Majoring in Secondary Education and Mathematics

Tutor Kinley Cook

Kinley Cook tutors all available mathematics tutoring courses but MA 105, 110, and 147. Her current interest is mathematics in linear algebra. During her free time, Kinley listens to music, travels, reads fantasy books, and hangs out with her friends. Fun fact: She went on a UNA Study Abroad trip to South Korea in the Summer of 2024.

She says, "My favorite thing about tutoring is meeting new people and staying up to date with my math skills."

 

Joseph Pope

Double Majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science

Tutor Joseph Pope

Joseph Pope tutors MA 100, 100E, 112, 113, 115, 125, and 126. He is involved with the Esports Club and plays the clarinet. During his free time, he enjoys playing video games and tennis and listening to music.

Joshua Barnes

Majoring in Engineering, Concentrating in Power Generation and Chemical

Scholar Joshua Barnes

 Joshua Barnes tutors mathematics up to Calculus II for the STEM Learning Center. His favorite subject is physics because it is the "start of all the sciences," according to him. Joshua enjoys playing basketball and video games in his free time. Fun fact: he is double-jointed in his thumb.

He says, "My favorite part of being a tutor is seeing what I am explaining click in a student's head."

Ezzy Vielma

Majoring in Mathematics

Scholar Ezzy Vielma

Ezzy Vielma tutors MA 100, 100E, 112, 113, 115, 125, and 126. She enjoys going to concerts and festivals and spending time with her family.

 

LSAMP is an alliance-based program, whereby a group of institutions of higher education (IHEs) work together to diversify the nation's science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce by increasing the number of STEM baccalaureate and graduate degrees awarded to persons from LSAMP populations.
