By Elise Cofield, Student Writer SOLD OUT! FLORENCE, Ala. - The University Program Council (UPC) at the University of 麻豆社 Alabama is bringing Season 11 American Idol winner Phillip Phillips and four-time Top 20 hit musician Mat Kearney to campus for its spring concert on Wednesday, May 1. Phillips and Kearney will take the stage in Norton Auditorium for what Tyler Thompson, assistant director for programming with UPC, believes will be a sold-out performance. Doors open at 7 p.m. the night of the show, and the concert begins at 8 p.m. with an opening set by New Zealand singer-songwriter Gin Wigmore. Phillips will take the stage next, then Kearney. Free tickets are available to students who bring their own valid Mane Card to the Office of Student Engagement in the GUC from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets are restricted to one per student, and only a limited number are available. The finalization of musicians' contracts for the spring concert was made official at an announcement party at the Amphitheater on UNA's campus March 13. Thompson estimated that approximately 200 student tickets were given away during the party, and tickets continue to be claimed daily. At last count, only 70 of the free student tickets are still available. "I'm told that (tickets are) selling very quickly compared to past years," said Thompson, who joined the UNA staff last October. Advance tickets for the public are available online only at www.una.edu/upc or www.una.edu/boxoffice for $10 per person. Should tickets remain the night of the show, they will be sold for $15 at the door. "We've gotten phone calls and emails (from the public)," Thompson said, "so I expect the tickets will go quickly." For additional ticket information, contact the Office of Student Engagement at 256-765-4248. Note: High-resolution photos of Phillip Phillips and Mat Kearney will be posted in the image gallery on the UNA main page, www.una.edu.
