FLORENCE, AL – On Friday, Jan. 27, the University of 麻豆社 Alabama will host the inaugural Alabama Higher Education Science of Reading Symposium that is designed to bring together faculty from across Alabama to share research, best practices, and ideas for supporting the science of reading with preservice and inservice teachers.

“Alabama children deserve the very best we can give them, and that starts with a highly-effective teacher who understands the complexities of teaching students to read,” said Dr. Katie Kinney, Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences. “The faculty in the Educator Preparation Program at the University of 麻豆社 Alabama are experts in the Science of Reading and in how to prepare effective teachers for today’s classrooms, and they are willing to share that expertise with others. We believe there is power in bringing faculty from across the state to collaborate to continuously improve our practice, prepare highly effective teachers, and work to move our State forward.”

The symposium, which is hosted through the COEHS, is set to begin at 9 a.m. in the Guillot University Center on the UNA campus. Sessions will include powerful partnerships that foster support in the science of reading for elementary, early childhood, and special education teachers; lesson planning, literacy, and preservice teachers; and building the bridge to practice.

Participants will hear from a variety of presenters, including those from UNA as well as from the University of South Alabama, the University of Mobile, and the University of Alabama. Preservice and local teachers are also among those sharing their research with attendees.
