Bryan Rachal, University Communications FLORENCE, Ala. - Students have until Feb. 26, to apply for a University of 麻豆社 Alabama scholarship through the Tennessee Valley Historical Society (TVHS). Each year the TVHS sponsors three scholarships for high school students who plan to attend UNA. The scholarships are awarded based on the students' knowledge of American and world history, as measured by an examination. The 1st-place senior will receive $750, the 2nd-place senior receives $500 and the 1st-place high school junior will receive $250. In August 2016, TVHS contributed $20,000 to continue to build an endowment to support student scholarships in the UNA Department of History. Located in the Muscle Shoals region of the Tennessee River Valley, the TVHS has been in existence since 1923 and according to UNA's chair of the Department of History, Dr. Jeff Bibbee, they have made huge contributions to the preservation and interpretation of history in the region. The UNA Department of History will host an awards reception March 20 where the top three students will receive their scholarship. "This is more than an event just for the recipients," Bibbee said. "For the reception we invite the student with the highest score from each school who participated in the competition to attend, along with their parents and their history teacher, to be recognized for their achievement," he said. Bibbee said the partnership between TVHS and UNA's Department of History is all about educating the next generation of historians. For more information: /history/ or 256-765-4306
